A building’s skin is the first element one encounters when they come across and remember a piece of architecture. It involves one’s perception of the beauty and appreciation in a design accent and concept and forms a close connection to space and time, including the surrounding environment, geographical as well as climatic conditions in which the building is situated.

Themed’ More Than Skin’, the July-August 2021 issue of ASA Journal, features stories, origins, and design concepts of many intriguing works of architecture. Despite their varied locations and functionalities, these works communicate their architectural narratives through the different materials and designs of their skins. The issue also includes articles on some material innovations for facade design, which we hope will be beneficial and inspirational to fellow members for future study and implementation in your work.
